In addition to the empathy I feel for the myriad victims of abuse

in the entertainment industry, in politics, etc., and also in addition to the resentment I feel toward the perpetrators, I also feel a small but growing concern about the potential for false accusations to be taken more seriously than they should be. Because the environment we're in right now gives me a sense that, should a person decide they want to, for any reason, accuse someone of harassment/assault, they will be believed and the accused will be skewered without much real investigation into the facts.

I emphasize that I'm not suggesting that the claims we're reading about in the news these days are false; rather that the environment in the public eye seems more aligned with "if they're accused they're guilty" than it may have been in the past.

Nobody deserves to be falsely accused, just as much as nobody deserves to be assaulted/harassed.
