12/5 Update: Crockett signed with Reds to minor league deal with an


invitation to spring training. As I understand it, it means he doesn't have to be on the 40 man roster until activated to play in the big leagues, and correspondingly will only be paid the major league minimum salary (or perhaps a different negotiated amount) if that happens. As long as he pitches in the minors he's paid at a much lower rate.

I think he has a decent chance to make the season-opening bullpen, as their only holdover lefty reliever (Wandy Peralta) isn't necessarily a lefty specialist (which I think is how KC is now being thought of), more of a full-inning set up guy in the best case scenario. The main competition would come from starters being moved to the bullpen, which could happen with any of the former top prospects Brandon Finnegan, Amir Garrett, or Cody Reed.
