Undoubtedly college soccer is a major long-term issue...but a non-factor

in failing to qualify this World Cup. It does not keep us from qualifying out of CONCACAAF. Rather, it keeps us from excelling on a world stage.

Our failure this go round is squarely on the architect of the program, the coach of the team, and the players on the field, We bungled our approach the last several years (Gulati). We did not put out the right players or adjust in game appropriately (Arena). And the team at large did not play with the urgency or grit that was required (the players).

In the short-run, we need to change out the architect, the coach, and many of the players. On the mid/long-term horizon, if we want to compete for WC titles (among other reasons), we need to change the college approach and the college mindset. And if not, in my opinion we need to accept that we will not contend for WC titles.
