Cord cutting is real, but I agree it doesn't tell the whole story


Here's an article that came out today, it estimates that 22M people have cut the cord to date, and further that "never-corders," folks who might have otherwise purchased cable and satellite packages in another eras, never signed on.

Now part of the beauty of cutting the cord is that most Americans can still access the networks for free, so at least some are watching games in classic over-the-air fashion. Others are buying streaming packages that give them ESPN, so they'll get MNF if they want it.

I wonder how much of the NFL's struggles are related to over-saturation, or to fantasy football hitting a peak a couple of years ago (is that true? It seems like many folks grow out of their leagues, and maybe fewer millennials are taking their place, but I have no data). I'd imagine CK and concussions both have some impact as well.
