That Jefferson's vision liberated the world, that he is worthy of respect?

Like most wealthy or landed people of his time around the world, Thomas Jefferson owned slaves.

Unlike any other person in the world, he articulated a new relationship between people and their governments. His vision inspired people around the world to redefine that ancient relationship for the next two hundred years. He founded a university, where these knuckleheads are chanting, to help people develop the skills necessary to turn that relationship between the people and their governments the right way around. That university has also inspired people around the world for almost two centuries now.

It's my second paragraph that makes him exceptional, and that's why we celebrate his legacy. If a young student doesn't like Thomas Jefferson's legacy, or is too short-sighted to see that it is positively exceptional, then that student should feel free to choose another option for his or her higher education. The University of Virginia respects and is grateful for Thomas Jefferson's legacy and will continue to celebrate it.

How's that?
