There's one change I'd like to make in soccer rules re: penalty kicks


I don't like it when there's a foul in the penalty box, and it's not a dangerous goal scoring opportunity, but the ref must award a penalty kick. I think the ref should have the discretion to give a regular free kick at the spot of the foul without a penalty kick. In the women's Penn St game yesterday, Penn St got a penalty kick because of a hand ball in the box. But the hand ball was because one of our players was trying to clear the ball, and it bounced off another player's arm. This should not result in a penalty kick. In our men's game against Syracuse, Cuse got a penalty kick because we tripped their player in the box. But it wasn't a dangerous opportunity at all.
