I agree with you overall...

but it wouldn't happen that quickly, and I think one TO is a bit too harsh.

I do think that the step out of the box and redo the gloves shtick is the greatest area of opportunity to speed things up. I'd start with two per plate appearance, as I think that would teach batters not to engage in automatically doing it on every pitch, while not unreasonably interfering with legitimate reasons for stepping out. The end result would, IMHO, be a savings of 15 minutes per game.

There are also 2 or 3 catchers now who go out to the mound for a conference every time there are runners aboard, sometimes 8-10 times in a game. That needs to stop.

There are limits on coaching visits to the mound... there need to be similar limits on catchers.

The fundamental problem, however, is money. TV demands a long commercial break between half innings...that's at least 17 or 18 times a game, and I would imagine that costs more time than any of the various delays that occur due to player actions.

For me, the ironic part of all this length of game issue is that our own team is as big an offender as there is at any level of baseball. Yes, I'm speaking ill of a guy I think the world of...Karl Kuhn.
