I'd say different skills, not "so much skills"....I think there's also


an advantage in baseball to playing year round, and that's not possible in a significant part of the country at an early age (my little league season lasted for less than 3 months as a kid and we only played two 6-inning games in most weeks). Although we did have one kid from our league make it to the majors, despite the limited opportunities to play. He skipped his age 12 year of Little League and played in the next league above because he was so good. I suppose there are more travel teams now than when I was a kid, so that helps, but even still, most kids play soccer/football, then basketball in the winter, then baseball in the spring.
