Goodness. I wish I were more optimistic re Sperling.
I don't see his control getting that good unless they find something in his mechanics.
I have to suppose he'll need to work some innings in as a starter. It seemed to me on many occasions he had trouble collecting himself when something went wrong--a bad strike/ball call or a botched play behind him. I'm hoping distance from the game will fix what was going on in his head.
But his pitching can be electric. Toward the end, when he was coming in from the bullpen, and started pitching, it would be clear to me, I was seeing the hardest, sharpest throws from any of the pitchers all night. It's just that they were balls.
