The VAR is only supposed to overturn obvious calls.


You can't honestly say with a straight face there's no doubt the the Chilean player was offside.

If you split hairs you might be able to call it that, but that was a situation where it was about as close as you can get to being 50/50 on or off, which the VAR is not supposed to make a determination on.

In fact, that play is a situation in which most people have been saying (wasn't it even a directive to the refs?) if you're not sure give the benefit of the doubt to the attacking player.

If they learn from this incident and improve how it's implemented, fine. That's why they're trying it in the Confed Cup in the first place.
