We currently don't have a series victory over a good team
that is their main negative criteria against us right now, along with a poor non conference schedule. Our ACC series wins are over Duke, Pitt and VT, with RPI's respectively at 146, 94 and 103 (and records near .500 or below .500). Not exactly resume building series wins.
Our RPI is good due to the tough first half of the conference schedule, and our overall great record. But it hurt that we couldn't get a series win out of the UNC/Clemson/L'ville pack.
We certainly are on track to host if we finish the year strong. However, a slip up from here on out in the ACC could doom us with regard to hosting, especially if we don't get a series win over FSU, which looks like our last ACC opportunity at a series win over a quality opponent.
The ACC is very top heavy this year. Outside of the top tier teams of UNC/Clemson/L'ville, many of the traditionally strong programs are having mediocre/bad years by their standards. Excluding UVa, only FSU and WF (outside of the top tier teams mention above) would qualify as quality series wins this year, and we don't play WF. And even FSU is having a somewhat down year by their standards. In terms of picking up quality series wins, it hurts that Miami and GT are so mediocre this year.
It's a shame, but our resume would look much better had we just won 1 more game over either UNC, Clemson or L'ville. Then the whole knock against us of not having a series win over a good squad wouldn't be valid.
