Optimist's view...

(sorry, a little long)
I will say upfront that I am an eternal optimist when it comes to UVA Football and Basketball. I know better than to bet money on UVA sports because I am biased to a fault. I grew up in Charlottesville and was there at the first night game under the temporary lights when Clemson killed us. But I was also there during George Welsh's time and went to the first bowl game against Purdue in 1984 and the All-American Bowl against BYU in my current home city, Birmingham, AL. I was also at the game against GT when the Hoo Nation had our hearts ripped out by Scott Sisson on a late field goal after we had been ranked #1 for 3 weeks in 1990. Being in the heart of SEC country, I get no coverage of ACC, let alone UVA sports, so I am on The Sabre daily getting my fix. I have seen ups and downs. The great thing about college sports, though, is that every once in a while, confidence and youthful exuberance can turn momentum in a game. I believe if we get some early wins under our belt this season, the whole mood changes. There were games last year where we were very close, but didn't finish with the W. The Richmond game was an eye-opener and very disappointing. Hopefully this season the team can focus on what happens on the field and not how they get on to the field. I will continue to start every game with the belief that we can win despite recent history. I can't be there in person, but I hope fans who do have the opportunity to attend games in Charlottesville will remember that we should be there to support the young men on the field, despite any issues we may have with the coaches or the administration. The team will feed off the fans cheering for them and it may be worth the extra yards or points that turn a close game in our favor.
I believe we will get to a bowl game this year, and that success will help in recruiting. And I will certainly hope for a victory against that other school in Bleaksburg. Either way, I will continue to believe in The University and all of its teams.

Go Hoos!
