Med cruise / Italy advice

Hi folks, my family (wife, daughters ages 8 and 6) are going on a cruise (NCL) next month leaving from Barcelona and up the Italian coast, then stopping in Cannes and Majorca. My wife and I have been to Rome and Florence before on our honeymoon about 11 years ago.

Monday is a sea day. Tuesday we stop in Naples. I am going to try to get us to Pompeii. I hear the train is also doable there. Has anyone done the train/seen Pompeii? I haven't seen it but would love to. I think my kids will benefit as well.

Wednesday we stop in Civitavecchia. It looks like we can get a train from the cruise port (Civitavecchia) to Rome a couple times an hour. Does that sound right? I booked a family friendly tour of the Colosseum and Forum for our Rome day. The tour is 2.5 hours and begins at 1:30. So I think we will go into the city, see the Trevi fountain, see the Parthenon and eat lunch. Then do this tour. I am planning to skip the Vatican tour in the interest of time and well, kids interest. Is there something else we should really really see in Rome with kids?

Thursday we stop in Livorno. We want to get to Florence. I'm not 100% sure what we'll see here, probably do a walking tour of the city and lunch.

I started planning in earnest today, any suggestions would be welcome. Ways to save money, avoid hassle, kid friendly items.

Thanks in advance!
