The problem is, its all happening in a vacuum. With the NCAA prohibiting


scrimmages against other teams, you have no idea what you have. A guy performing well in your practices might just be the best of a poor crop or he could be a legit stud.

The only insurance against that is known quantities on your own team, and unfortunately, for us that doesn't help in most areas. You could say an OL that handles Andrew Brown and Micah Kiser well is probably a decent blocker, but outside of that, not much you can learn given team's poor on-field performance last year.
