Can someone explain to me what's up with alumni support for swimming?

There was a post here a few weeks ago saying that there is very little alumni support for the swimming program. For example, the last two years there wasn't a single alumnus at the ACC meet. It was talking about the men's program, so I don't know if there's any more support on the women's side. My impression is that there was good alumni support under Dino since he had been here for over 30 years, and he was well-loved by swimmers past and present. When he left in 2013, I know many alumni were very unhappy. I would think that alumni support is quite important to the success of our program (e.g. their opinion can make a difference among families of recruits). It's been almost four years since he left. Can't alumni let bygones be bygones? Even if they are still mad over what happened, can't they decide that they also need to be loyal to their alma mater? It's not healthy to hold onto grudges. I am not all that familiar with things, so please forgive my ignorance on this topic.

I am including the link to the post from a few weeks ago.
