A general rule of thumb is does your fingernail catch the scratch

if you run it over. If so, then it will likely need to be painted. If it's lighter than that, then generally a buff and touchup guy can get it out. You can go to an auto dealership in your area, and ask them who does it. They will have a stack of cards of guys they use for reconditioning work on their own cars.
