Re: Not naive at all.

"How is it that Austin Nichols' issues eluded what I can only presume is CTB's rigorous vetting for 'fit' / quality inspection prior to offering Nichols' a spot on the team? "
***********************************************************************

You seem to conclude that "Austin Nichols' issues" (whatever they might have been in October/November, 2016) were in existence in July, 2015, when the transfer was announced, and that due diligence on the behalf of CTB should have uncovered that Mr. Nichols would violate team rules 15 months later.

We do not know which team rule(s) Mr. Nichols violated.

We do not know that Mr. Nichols ever had 'issues' prior to October, 2016.

As far as we know, Mr. Nichols did not violate team rules in August/September/October/November/December of 2015 or in January/February/March/April/May/June/July/August/September of 2016, during which time Mr. Nichols remained in good standing and traveled to Spain as a member of the team.

We do know:

- Mr. Nichols was a four-year letter winner at Briarcrest Christian School for head coach John Harrington and was named Tennessee Division 2AA's Mr. Basketball in 2011-12, and was named the 2012-13 Gatorade Tennessee Player of the Year as a senior

- Mr. Nichols lettered at Memphis in 2013-14, starting all 34 games and was named American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year

- Mr. Nichols lettered at Memphis in 2014-15, playing in 27 games, including 26 starts, and was named to the All-American Athletic Conference first team

- We do know that 20-years old males who are enjoying star-status as athletes occasionally make poor choices and that not all of these choices may be predicted 15 months in advance.
