This team actually reminds me of a better version of the 12-13 team

that should have made the NCAAs but wound up in the NIT. That team had Akil and Darion, but both were defense first guys (although Akil had some games where he scored because we had nobody else who could really). But that team was focused around Joe Harris (i.e. London) and had no other real go to guys. We survived on defense and Joe Harris plus maybe one other guy who would show up that night. It was a "down year" considering we had gone to the tourney the year before, but in reality it was a building block for the following year where Joe, Malcolm, Akil, Darion, plus Justin (who was nothing more than a "jump out of the gym" guy the year before), became the focal point of the team. Gill started to show flashes, as did Mike Tobey, and some kid named London ran the point.

That 12-13 team was missing TWO key pieces. One was Gill, who was redshirting much like we have two redshirts this year. The other was Malcolm, who like Nichols was not expected to be missing.

This team is a better version of that team, and we started higher, so we'll be in the NCAAs and not the NIT, but much like that 12-13 team the folks who will be the keys for next year will still be here with one exception (London). Shayok or Guy could take over like Harris, Hall could take a major leap in his game again like Anderson, Wilkins could grow into his role like Atkins or Mitchell, as could Reuter and Salt. And we've got a great up and coming point guard to tie it all together.

Yup, this could be a "down year" - in that we maybe only make it to the sweet 16... but watch out for these guys next year.... that team could very well be just like the 13-14 team and pull off the regular and tourney championship.

And with that.... I'm off the kool aid. LOL
