The talent pool was and is way too shallow to be a "technical" side

But I commend JK for exploring the possibility - he waited too long to adjust back to what we do best, though. I don't have a problem with defend and counter as it gives us the best chance to win and we can utilize our best resources more effectively.

Somewhat related, I also commend JK for the push behind the academy system - it will serve us best in the long run. A key part going forward will be better coordination between MLS and US Soccer and the academies. JK was a crucial part of the resurrection of German football after the early 2000's meltdown and poor performance. However, as good a player as he was and his very good insight to revamp the development system in Germany, he is just not a good coach. His struggles at Bayern and here exemplify that.
